Take part in our Canal Clean-Up – Saturday 18th – 2 PM

Next Saturday (18th April) myself and Simon Herbert (Green candidate in Mulhuddart ward) are taking a break from campaigning to lead a clean up along the Royal Canal as part of National Spring Clean.

We are meeting in two groups – Simon’s group will be meeting at Clonsilla Station and my group will be meeting at Castleknock Train Station. We will be cleaning the area around the two stations, then we will be working along the bank of the Canal and meeting at Coolmine Station.

The clean-up kicks off at 2 PM. Do come and join us. The Royal Canal is a real resource for Dublin 15, but unfortunately it is often littered. Myself and Simon are inviting people from across Dublin 15 to help us give this stretch of the canal a good cleaning

Litter in Coolmine Woods must be tackled

Litter at Coolmine Woods

Recently residents in the Coolmine area have highlighted to me their concerns about the large amount of litter in Coolmine Woods and along the laneway linking the Clonsilla Road to the Snugborough Road. I visited the area and there are a large amount of beer cans and bottles, paper and plastic litter lying among the trees and behind the wall beside the bus stop.

The Coolmine Woods are now much more open since the Council cut back much of the undergrowth. While this makes the route safer to travel, it has also revealed the large amount of litter that collects in the area.

I have raised this issue with Fingal County Council and I look forward to them removing the litter in question.

Press Release – O’Gorman calls for more litter bins in Bramley estate

Green Party Castleknock ward candidate, Roderic O’Gorman, has called on Fingal County Council to install new litter bins in Bramley estate in Carpenterstown.

“A significant number of residents in Bramley have told me that litter is a major problem in the estate. I was canvassing in the area recently and despite the best efforts of those who live there, there is a noticeable amount of rubbish, particularly on the green space. I’ve written to Fingal County Council and asked it to consider installing some new litter bins on the green between Bramley Park and Bramley View”, stated Roderic O’Gorman.

“In some ways, the amount of litter in the area isn’t that surprising, as Bramley is an extremely open estate which can be accessed from four sides – opposite Burnell Park, opposite the Carpenter, off the Carpenterstown Park east road and from Laverna. This means there is a large amount of pedestrian traffic going through the area – students going to and from Castleknock Community College and St Patricks NS, people coming back from the Carpenter at night etc. As there are currently no bins in the estate itself, this means that when people have cans, chip bags or cigarettes, they just throw the rubbish on the ground”.

“I hope the Council will give consideration to my proposal to locate new bins within Bramley. This would give those passing through somewhere to throw their litter, but it would also give the many residents who pick up rubbish on the green somewhere to dispose of it”, concluded Roderic O’Gorman.

Press Release – O’Gorman calls for clarification from Fingal regarding the removal of abandoned cars

Green Party Dublin 15 representative, Roderic O’Gorman, has urged Fingal County Council to provide clarification for the public regarding its powers and responsibilities in dealing with abandoned cars.

“I have recently been contacted by residents in the Dublin 15 area regarding the policy of Fingal County Council in relation to the removal of abandoned cars. The Council website currently advertises that it will remove abandoned cars from public property “subject to conditions”. However, one Carpenterstown resident I spoke to contacted the Council’s Environment Department regarding an abandoned car parked outside their house on the public road and were given conflicting and inaccurate advise on a number of occasions between early October and late December 2007 when the car was eventually removed”, stated Roderic O’Gorman.

“In light of the apparent confusion on the part of Council officials, I would make two suggestions. Firstly, the Council needs to clarify for itself the procedures that it must go through before it can remove an abandoned car (issues surrounding the responsibility of the Guards versus the Council, out of date tax and insurance, contacting the owner etc). Secondly, I would suggest that the Council amend its website and set out the procedures in full, so residents know and understand the situation”.

“I will be asking my Green Party colleagues on Fingal County Council to put these issues to the Environmental Department and the County Manager and I look forward to clarification on the situation”, concluded Roderic O’Gorman.
